>>1101519Neat. i was reading somewhere that when one of the heritage railroads was restoring a Shay, they replaced a broken axle with one from a a EMP GP series diesel. Hope no one minds this, but this is the Strausberg Railroad's live steam Thomas. "A Day out with Thomas" is a pretty big thing here. Lots of Heritage railroads will run an excursion with Percy, James or Thomas at the head of the train. In all other cases, they're dummy engines fitted with smoke generators and sound systems being pushed along by a diesel. Strausberg took a H.K. Porter 0-6-0st saddle tank engine and extensively reworked it and mechanically restored it to create a working Thomas. Obviously the outside cylinders had to stay, but everything else got pretty extensively altered.
