Knowing the state government's commitment to reserved/proposed corridors (look up John Bradfield's metropolitan railways proposal for Sydney in the 1910s and weep), the land will sit overgrown and vacant for decades until it is either used for a half-arsed alternative like a rapid bus service, protected by NIMBYs, or sold under the table to some corrupt fuckwit's friend in the private sector.
If it weren't for the recession twisting the government's arm to build infrastructure and keep people working, the new airport would most likely never get a rail line. Might as well build it or lose it.
