Transit also has greater benefits than pure profit by taking cars off the roads, indirectly improving quality of life for the remaining cagers, improving access to transportation for people who cannot access private transportation, and being better for the environment than single-occupancy vehicles.
If you're pure capitalist then sure, transit might not always provide a profit on paper alone, but when you consider its wider advantages then it is by far more beneficial than endless freeways or road networks.
