So I really don't think they're suited to any kind of serious riding.
You get hotspots with pinned flats on very long rides too, that was my main problem touring with them, I actually had to stop and borrow and angle grinder and take the pins down a little, but it's less of a problem.
It's slightly absurd that you're arguing over the merits of half clips vs pinned flats for 'serious' riding. Clipless are vastly superior for that.
