When I was invited to spend some time on the Isle of Harris I thought it would be cool and cheap to fly there and hire a bike rather than a car. I had some cheap hiking equipment and a bit of experience with through hiking. I figured that cycling the whole journey would be a breeze. Before this trip I'd probably not cycled more than 10 miles in a single trip.
I've got to say that as a baptism of fire it was great fun. I'm really glad I managed to have an authentic "fuck i'm an idiot" experience. They're hard to find these days when it's so easy to over prepare for an endeavour by spending too much time researching on the internet.
