You can't beat Auburn for inner suburbs, uncrowded trains, AND high frequency. 5 minute frequency peak trains coming towards the CBD from Belgrave/Lilydale/Alamein. Sure, it doesn't have a dot matrix display, but it's got a button to push to get service information, and a friendly coffee vendor in the mornings if you're into that. Short walk to Glenferrie Rd shops.
I don't live there any more but you bet I wish I did.
