I put a set of picrel on my bike a month ago after seeing everyone go crazy for them. Plan was to use them when going through some of the local forest gravel paths. I use the same bike for commuting to work on good quality tarmac bike paths (I live in Denmark) and last week I got a puncture when a small piece of stone dug its way in next to the tread on the shoulder.
I've now switched back to normal slick road bike tyres. Putting all the arguments about gravel just being 90s MTB, why shouldn't I just put some wider slick tyres on and go off road with those? In well over 20000 km of riding on the road with slick tyres I've had no punctures, but I got one with gravel tyres after just 200 km. If that's how badly they hold up on the road, what hope do they have off it?
Also for the record I'm not riding or interested in riding tubeless. Tubeless at normal road bike tyre pressures is the ultimate meme
