Japan did Shinkansen and its national expressway system, and some of the world's best airports.
Autobahnen didn't stop DB's ICE, or new airports.
Korea (South) has KTX and an expressway system, and some of the world's best airports.
China built out its HSR and an expressway system and an airport system simultaneously.
And so on.
All of those countries are theoretically poorer than the US and yet have more options of higher quality. Capabilities which the US now depends upon.
