But you're right in the sense that the USSR/Russia have been competitors with the West in the aviation industry since WW2, unlike the cooperative ventures in space, and would be like Intel conceding the CPU market to AMD. And to underestimate competitors is the type of foolishness described right out of Sun Tzu's the Art of War. Underestimating Russia of all countries has resulted in some of the most severe defeats in history. I don't know if you've heard of Napoleon or Hitler.
