Speaking of history, I believe Salt Lake City had the largest electric trolley system in the country at the turn of the century only to be shut down fairly quickly as cars came along. Here we are 100 years later as the return of electric LRV's returned to service the 2002 olympics. The citizens of Salt lake county voted against a bond to fund the first line(blue line) so it was done on a shoestring by UTA out of their bus system profits along with Fed money and Olympic money. We now have one of the more successful systems in the nation.
