Whiny nitpicking aside though, lycra is just comfortable. It stretched and moves with the body, it doesn't flap around, it doesn't chafe and handles sweat better than most other fabrics.
The real question is why one would not wear it. And that generally comes down to people being uncomfortable with others seeing the shape of their bodies.
