>>1245936Sadly, I'm forced to agree with you on this one. For every ten or twelve drivers for my city, there's one who doesn't belong behind the wheel of a bus. We had the woman who was progressively going blind and only passed her CDL test on the third try, the woman who rammed the side of a UPS truck in training and was still passed through (relation to the trainer, we thought it was BS) and went on to hit a pedestrian at a marked crossing five weeks later. We had the guy who scraped a concrete pillar from stem to stern, wrecking the whole side of a bus, because he "swerved to miss a dog" (BS). Best one was a guy, near 70, who was constantly running red lights and stop signs unawares. He misses his turn, so he pulls into a gas station parking lot, does a seven-point turn while striking parked vehicles, and heads back out to complete his route. They called him saying PD was looking for him and asking if he hit a vehicle, his reply was "Yeah! Yeah! At the gas station." Again, I could go on and on. Yeah, there are a few screw-ups out there who somehow remain gainfully employed. Be cautious.
>>1245940Granted sometimes the laws are heavily in the grey, depending on your state, county, locality, etc. However, one thing I know which would save a lot of heartache, and keeps cyclists within the bounds of respecting the rules and other traffic, is to not (for lack of a better term) force the issue. Yield, move aside, stop, get off the road for a second. It's something we learn in CDL driving: You might be in the right and someone is conflicting with you in the wrong. Let them. Slow down, stop, get out of the way. You're inconvenienced while some hard-on cuts into your lane illegally... but you're not in a wreck and you're back on your way. So many cyclists act like once they get on the bike they literally can. Not. Stop. For. Anything! Just get out of the way, pride isn't worth it.
