>>1616172It's pretty easy. An older bike will have geometry favorable to riding in the drops so that your hands are closer to the shifters. If the bike is running biopace rings the shifting will likely be shit no matter how much work you put into it, so replace with round rings. My first DT bike was Biopace with Shimano's first go at indexing, and it was fucking awful. Switched it to Suntour Cyclone GT and shifting became so smooth and quick that I understood why Suntour slept on indexing, and why every grumpy old retrogrouch has such a boner for Suntour.
