>>1447385Many cities in America had absolutely savage streetcar systems back in the day. IIRC Pittsburgh had like over 600 PCCs at one point. Just one example out of many. Then of course happened what we all know and the rest is history.
>I don’t know if there’s the money or political will to build out a new network. Ah come on, there's so much money still being put into highways, of course there's money, there's just no political (or social) will.
>QLineI was actually expecting something more memey, at least it makes some sense in connecting the amtrak station with downtown. The biggest fuckup is probably building it curbside, that's just pants-on-head retarded. Just for that it would have to be rebuilt in the street center to be the spine of a larger network.
Anyway, here's the promised proposal. First off the pic showing possible commuter train lines. Detroit is pretty typical for an american city in that it has a lot of train lines radiating from it. Just using existing tracks an excellent commuter service could be established. I'd design this service originating from Michigan Central Station of course.
The thin black lines are commuter rail, the colored lines are LRT.
