Has anybody here tried touring on a mountain bike? I live in the midwest, so there's lots of flat straight roads to cross, but I've only ever ridden on trails or streets in town, not on the highways. I'm worried though, because some of the (county) highways have no shoulder at all, so maybe it would be better to use the gravel roads (hence the mountain bike) instead?, but I'm not sure how much harder gravel is to cross than pavement. (But maybe it doesn't matter because it's still much better than getting hit by a car.)
