You can start on a 100 ton boat with just a TWIC, spend like $1500 to get your basic STCW, keep working on the 100 ton boat and save up like $3500 for AB classes.
From there get a job on a larger better paying boat/company and start working on anything from 500t mate or 3/m depending on tonnage.
