Where day 1 was mostly flat cycling north along the river, day 2 I got my first taste of the mountains. I rode from the rest stop to an onsen in Midori near the base of Mt. Akagi, but unfortunately the bath was closed for the evening, so I decided to push on in the rain. Once I left the main highway for a more scenic road, the pitch black, narrow winding road and driving rain were too much to continue, and I felt I was missing out on the scenery, so I pitched my hammock in the trees by a river on the roadside. In the morning I woke up to this view, on the top of that hillside there was a train track overlooking the river below and the commuter trains would periodically roll by as I cooked breakfast.
