I started cycling to work 3 years ago, and I resolved to cycle every day come rain or shine. i wanted to break my over reliance on the car, as well as improve my overall fitness and just to experience a bit of hardship which has to be good for the spirit.
So in a perverse was I relish the winter season, there is something extremely rewarding about pushing yourself through the biting wind, rain, sleet and snow when you know you have a much more convenient and easy option.
I don't prep the bike for winter though, it's the same basic set up all year round, instead I wear water proofs. Living as I do in England, and therefore knowing that there will be more wet days than dry, I spent a decent amount on a comfy lightweight breathable set of waterproofs, they are beginning to show their age now after 3 winters, and so I will replace them with the same because they are great.
I also go for at least 2 long distance rides a month (30-50 miles), again weather is no barrier and in fact snow riding is by far my favourite, although sadly we get little real snow here.
