I always liked the 3M programmable visibility signals, they were developed decades ago and most cities already have or are phasing them out. Using tape, an installer could 'mask off' visibility from selected angles. That really helped at weird intersections with oblique angles (about the only places I saw them), so you wouldn't mistake another lane's signals for your own.
