i think you should try and re-use that tape, you might not tear it, and you can always do a ring of electrical tape over the bit you do tear.
your washing regime is insane you shouldn't have to do that lol
your stupid bike deserves some fluro yellow or pink tape one day i think and faux-leather tape like fizik is better imo because it can be washed more easily and rewrapped.
your hoods are probably never going to be that great a position on that bike, not your primary position like modern setups, because your bars have very steep trad style ramps and the hoods themselves look pretty uncomfy but it's worth setting them up to use them sometimes.
