>>1910252I just put on the mirror, I need to put it more outboard. can't see anything behind me except my leg right now. I fear the wide-angle distortion is too great to see anything useful, though. may discard, we'll see.
funny you should mention the hollowtech. I bought it used because it came with the bearings and it was still cheaper than the cheapest square taper compact crank by nearly half. all I wanted was a compact crank (my original 144 bcd crank could only fit 52/42 at the smallest). but when I weighed the new crank with rings and bearings against the stock crank, rings, cups, bearings, and BB spindle, it was the same. it's because the hollowtech is Sora and pig heavy. I want to drillium it except I'm paranoid I'll break it but I don't have access to a drill press in any event.
although the triple butted cro-mo frame is reasonably light, the stuff I put on really adds up, particularly those fold-out baskets. they were super heavy so I grams-shaved them by cutting off the thick grating and replacing it with thin galvanized wire. I shaved 2 whole pounds (almost a kilogram) that way but, as you can imagine, the framework and hinges are still a pig. I love using them so I try not to get too hung up on weight, especially since it doesn't really matter for my build and the riding I do, but still sort of annoying.
cannot vouch for the accuracy of my cheap scale but should be a reasonable estimate at least.
