They have been around for decades virtually unchanged simply because they are practical and comfortable for what they are designed to do: short trips in the city with little elevation (if you are in a hilly region, they are shite). They are real workhorses and will last you a very long time. I'd go for a used Batavus or Gazelle good condition.
