I decided to give it another shot at a different school. It was much windier than the previous time. Instructor basically picked it up into a hover, got the takeoff going, then handed me the controls and said don't kill us. Nobody else was flying the pattern because winds were 18kts with gusts to 25kts and the other school said fuck that. We were in a R22 which gets absolutely brutalized by high winds. It was super scary but my instructor let me figure it out and ended up being a ton of fun. I was hooked after that.
