nicer on your shins than metal and if you aint doing drops and that then metal bodies aren't necessary at all.
but spend a bit of money so you get decent bearings that last

pins you can screw in and out are nice but you can take ones that are just part of the pedal down a bit if you want with a file or an angle grinder

pedals all have the same thread
buy something like this if you just want a beater
both sides unscrew towards the back of the bike (so the left one is reverse threaded)
you need a 15mm spanner to unscrew them

i suggest you grease the new pedal's threads you put on

yes but i suggest you change them to flat pedals and learn to trackstand first and in general get more used to the bike.

you need a 15mm spanner and a tub of grease (wheel bearing grease from an autoparts store is good) to change. They unscrew towards the back of the bike. Screw them in tight. Be careful not to crossthread. lightly grease the new pedal threads and clean the crank threads with wd40 and a rag before install.

i suggest a nylon bmx pedal like this.

it is really a gorgeous bike

but really anon road bikes are comfortable for -riding- on. your pedalling effort supports your body. If you're just cruising around they aren't great.

like you'll find if you're actually putting in enough watts pedalling you might even be pulling up on the bars rather than bearing down on them

get some nice bmx/mtb style pinned flats. preferably nylon/plastic as it's just a bit nicer to bash around your shins, but metal is fine. spend money on them and they'll have good quality bearings. don't cheap out too hard.

and i think you should buy some nicer pedals like this and maybe if you ride around with a backpack/stuff all the time, get a rack & zip tie a metal basket on it
