Got my 4 year old twins up on a couple of Woom3 bikes, finally got them pedaling (FUCK YEAH). We did the whole balance thing and went straight to hand brakes, the transition to actually pedaling was pretty rough and took 3 days of concentrated effort.
My question is what is the current thought on pads for kids? I've got them helmet trained, they'll play on the playground for an hour and not notice they're still wearing it but they've been getting a significant number of elbow scrapes from eating pavement.
I'm on the fence about getting pads- on the one hand it would keep the session going, they're tough but it puts them off wanting to ride. On the other hand maybe they're learning not to be totally stupid- falling fucking hurts like hell and deserves riding deserves some focus until you're better. Not sure road rash is necessary for that lesson to take effect though.
Don't know if there are any other #dadfags on here, or some of you are millennial enough you probably grew up in full armor, what are your thoughts on pads in addition to helmets?
