>>1982820They made this beast of a locomotive. The Baldwin DR-12-8-1500/2 aka the Centipede, named as such due to the fact that it was incredibly long with a long chain of axles. It was capable of 3000 horsepower and the goal was to have it become a highly efficient mainline engine. It also gave a sign of what was to come for Baldwin, that is they were being quickly outpaced by EMD/Electro-Motive Diesel locomotives while Baldwin was developing this and other products. Their F unit series immediately made the Centipede obsolete and kind of ridiculous give its size and in the following years Baldwin began to fall apart.
