It's the same as taking a high interest loan when you are desperate, such as student loans, and unless there are central banking controlled police to force you to pay or take you to a cage then you can just not pay the loan and fuck up your credit. Notice how student loans are the only loans you cannot default on and the STATE uses the police to force you to pay or lock you up.
Or alternatively (not my opinion but another view) it's better that they get sold into slavery instead of starving to death as their mother is incompetent and it's also better to have this problem impact as few people as possible instead of spreading the burden to the wider society to the point where Welfare states attain considerable power by making people dependent on them.
