Please help me understand the bottom bracket? My LBS told me I needed a 68x118, but when I went to order it I saw there are different threads and with raliegh it sounded like there were several possibilities. Am I misunderstanding?

I'm rebuilding my 90's raleigh road bike and I'd like to replace the brake levers. Can anyone recommend a couple for some drop bars that are available with white hoods? Is that a common thing?
