>>1108635In 1929, together with the new tunnel for the line, an underground branch was built along the extension of Balmes street. This extension had to overcome a gorge by forming a smooth ramp, so it was actually cheaper to build a tunnel below it as you'd need less landfill. This tunnel was not put into service until 1954.
