The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the French equivalent of Hillary Clinton, is running for president in 2022. However, there are several contenders together with her on the left. She has been attempting to frontrun other leftist contenders by promising lots of crazy stuff. For example she said she would straight up increase the salaries of all teachers by 100%. She also wants to massively increase state-provided lodgings for migrants. Her promise of a car-free city is in line with those other crazy promises. Whatever it takes as long as she wins.
