With hydraulic disc brakes you can apply the needed extra force that you could sometimes lack, especially if your hands are frozen completely. Also they are more protected from oily splashes that come from road. And you can clean them much more easily if all you have available nearby is just mud and dirt that you can rub on. Needless to say, superior braking performance in real life conditions encountered by people who actually cycle for their own enjoyment, instead of ones simply showing off to other normalfags, or using the weight excuse, while not even competing with those bikes.
