Has there been any change in cables since the late 80's and early 90's? Looking to change canti brake and shifter cables but unsure whether new stuff is optimal for (or even compatible with) older tech? I dunno, maybe cable are different widths now or something.
Bike has Shimano Mountain-LX groupset.
Also is there anything else I should consider when buying these items? I notice there are various types of quick release brake cable ends, mine are sort of picrel shaped, and what about things like lever maintenance, should I degrease and lubricate those too?
