Not my pics, but this is the idea. You check lateral true with the two-tabbed gauge, and radial true with the longer diagonal one. No absolute measurements (via a dial indicator, etc), it's light gap & listen-for-it checking. Dish is checked w/ a separate tool.
I don't really have woodworking tools, so I made mine from 80/20 aluminum extrusion. An easy way to hold the axle is just buy a pair of dropouts from a framebuilding supplier.
