the moment you loose visual or physical contact with your bike it enters a state of flux
and is either being stolen or has been stolen
the exception is getting Air jacked
.ie someone jumps out from behind a tree and tackles you off your bike in mid air
they get on the bike and ride off before you can close the gap
so this is the extra variable
the known unknown
that at any point of visual obsturction or narrowing in your path an ambush may be waiting
or that anytime you cross a bridge or enter a tunnel it would be trivial to cut off all avenues of escape
