not a cruiser but i spent a good part of my life living aboard sailboats and houseboats on and around the Chesapeake region.. plan on cruising when i retire, currently mid 30's and aiming for retirement at mid 40's. we'll see.
current plan is to get a 27 ft and buff up on my sailing, maybe smaller, would like to trailer her when necessary.
will be on the lookout for a 32-40, but again would like to stay on the smaller end, possibly, comfort is important as i will have my lady with me. this will be the final boat so i am prepared for the time and money it will take to renovate and re-fit. i have a piece of land about an hour and a half away so if i find a gem i could put her on the hard there while i work on her and sail my 27. land is water front and have a boat launch across the street.
i want to get old on the final boat, so I'm budgeting for auto-pilot AIS radar etc etc, hoping easy-e has starlink at like 50 bucks a month by then but whatever.
most likely a mono hull but damn if i don't love the layouts of cats.
first trips in the 27 will be down to the keys and back up here. second trip i will try to solo some blue water to st. marteen. figure i need to get real blue water experience before i hit my late 40's or I'll be struggling to keep up with the ocean when I become a boomer.
plan to have another rental property to fund the retirement while at sea. but I also trade stonks and satoshi's and do arch/design work and sell art so i figure we'll be alright. I'm a master carpenter by trade so it's not like I'll go hungry anywhere we go. my lady can work remotely too, she's a bit younger and will probably continue to work our first few years aboard.
that's my TEDtalk, pic somewhat related its a pearson 28 i was looking at, guy wants 16k, meh.
