Secondly, I pretty much agree with you OP. Drop bars are more fun and offer more hand positions, but wider risers = more control off road and aero bars = more comfort when you need to get aero AND ergo grips = less wrist pain than any drop bar position
Finally and most importantly you can get away with a much more upright position on the risers than you would on the tops of the drop bar - which is great for seeing more shit and being more stable. Then when you need to get aero, you don't have to put all your weight on your wrists. A jack-up aero spot looks silly but is amazing. You can also keep a more open hip angle with your risers and only get into the awkward folded-over roadie position when in aero... which is great for your prostate health and hip flexors
