One time we found ourselves in 50kts of breeze and 40ft waves hitting us from starboard. Triple reef in the main and a hard tacked storm jib up forward. It was actually quite fun, as our keel was 14ft long with a shitload of lead at the bottom of it, so movement against the swells wasn't so bad, the trick was to helm as softly as you could, because every time you slammed off a wave or drove the boat into a stop, the guys off watch would remember the amount of times you did it when they were asleep.
