>>1438479i use slim platform pedals with velcro straps because i'm cheap and that's what came with my tarck bike that i use as a singlespeed road bike. i think they work well, the strap falls down so that you can just step on the non-strapped side of the pedal and get moving and then insert your shoe into the strap.
people say that commuters that are all geared up like roadies struggle to clip in and are slow to start from traffic lights. it's probably true to an extent but i wonder how much you can compensate with skill or by using the right type of pedal system like whatever mountain bikers or cyclocross riders are using.
