>>1263118A bunch of Bay Area Aerospace Engineers got cocky and decided they could do trains better than anyone else, so they made a lot of stupid design decisions and refused to listen to railroaders telling them they were dumb. End result was that BART was built to a non-standard-gauge with flat rails and cylindrical wheels that squeal so much they give passengers hearing damage and a train control system that never reliably worked where trains would routinely "disappear" that almost got people killed multiple times.
End result is that BART's spent most of the past 50 years realizing why railroads are designed the way they are and why it's not a good idea to try and change it.
