>>1493999I'm looking at doing a 'better than new' restoration. I plan to enter it into the Eroica Britannia 2021, and do the ride, of course. The repaint I've planned out will be about £500/$1000. I'm on the fence about chroming the rear triangle as this model never had it done, but doing so would make it a one of a kind restoration.
>>1494000That's how long it was when I got it, and it feels fine. I cut new outers to the same length, though in a few weeks I'll recable the bike, so I could tweak it then. I also plan on adding chrome ferrule to the cable outers. As for the accessories I'll get MKS full cages and black leather straps, Dia Compe copper mudgaurds, new jockey wheels, reflectors, and a longer seat post. I prefer brake levers without hoods, and I may even get thr originals anodized and chromed.
>>1494027I'm going for the better than new approach. I'm even getting reproduction vinyl decals produced as no one makes the right ones. The paint work is nice, and I've been developing the patina for the last year, but the more time I invest in restoring the bike, the better I want to make it.
I'm still researching at the moment, as I'm fairly certain the bike is a 1975-1977 Dawes Mirage, but the more I think about it, it could be a Dawes Galaxy without the rear chrome, but it's hard to prove.
When the bike is repainted the pannier rack and mudgaurds will be painted to match. The final, final thing I plan to do is replace the groupset with first release Suntour Cyclone parts, but that may take me a year or two to get everything.
