Question guys. I want to get the lowest gear possible for spinning up hills. But I have a stupid 8-speed Campag rear wheel on my bike, and the biggest rear sprocket I can find is 28 teeth.
What do you reckon is the cheapest and easiest way of getting a lower gear?
a) Buy a Shimano rear wheel so I can get a Shimano-compatible cassette (either Shimano or Sunrace) that goes up to like 40 teeth or more?
b) Try and find a smaller inner chainring that would fit my bike? I might check this, obviously I'll have to check the bolt circle diameter for this.
c) Try and fit triple chainrings? I'll have to look to see if this is even possible but I think it would require a new rear mech AND a new front mech right?
I think b) might be the cheapest option but of course it will affect every gear combination using the inner chainring, which might hamper the useful range of gears for riding on the flat.
