>>1462667Southern Maryland is dumb in not wanting to build Metro to Waldorf because they're worried about too much development. Ironically, all forms of modern development in Charles County only exist because of past rail transportation. Metro to Waldorf (or even Brandywine) would be a major win for Southern Maryland, as it would open up a convenient mass transit option for thousands of people who would otherwise be forced to drive to major job centers in DC.
The Purple Line is sensical, at least, because it's directly connecting two ends of two of the busiest counties in Maryland and weaving together a few Metro and MARC rail lines and several major economic centers (UMD, Silver Spring, Bethesda, New Carrolton). The Southern Maryland Rail Transit proposal is essentially hoping to shuttle people in the Southern Maryland region (who do need more transportation options) from a park and ride to Branch Avenue and then transfer to the Green Line, adding unnecessary steps to the commuting process.
