America is also highly narcissistic and not collectivist, which helps to describe the ugly civic landscape pretty passively, since it's all about "you" - your car, your house, your etc. etc. which I fully support, but also want to see balanced with civic enhancement being both culturally encouraged and economically encouraged (which our current ponzi scheme can no longer do).
but you can sure bet DC is built with wide avenues like Paris for the exact same reason.
