Its just a fact that the right angle gears exert a force 90 degrees to bike frame. Its a cool idea but the forces work against the bike with added complexity while a conventional chain just works with the bike
I also remember we had a bikeshop open down the road from me in the mid 00's that only sold shaft driven bikes. They did not last very long.
