what actually matters is how close your jockey wheel is to rubbing on the largest cog of the cassette (your 28t)
this is dictated by your b-limit screw
is there much more for it to be wound in?
It's very likely your derailer can clear the 12-32 sram or 11-34.
If not, a 7spd or 8spd mtb derailer is much easier than switching to a triple. Though, a tight range cassette + triple is cool gearing if you care about tight gears.
