>>1923399 wasn't trolling, it isn't especially useful because Houston commuting/shopping patterns aren't centralized like they are in NYC. Downtown Houston isn't the only functional downtown. A single hub and spoke transit system won't work, unless you're able to make downtown and the immediate surrounding area its own self-contained zone within the city.
I assume Houston has very high average miles traveled for a commute compared with other metros. If you're driving 40+ miles a day you do end up spending a lot of money on gas and vehicle wear/maintenance and that cancels out a lot of the supposedly lower cost of living.
And then the highest population density is located to the west, not near downtown, not near the focus of where they try to build transit (pic related).
