I was inspired to one day build up a 650b x 38 single speed after reading about how the Swiss Army used MO-05 single speed bicycles in 650b x 38 for 90 years. 90 years! Their bikes were in 65 gear inches, a 50 tooth chain ring and a 20 tooth cog. I've found ~65 gear inches is the absolute best gear ratio for an upright bicycle if you have to go up steep hills. It's what I ride and I can get up small 10.5% grades and I never find myself spinning out on the flats. So it got me thinking, if they settled on the golden gear ratio for their bikes, then maybe 650b x 38 has some kind of secret sauce as well. I really want to try it out.
