I've been wondering for some time what my options are in regards to putting a pedelec-type device on my bike - Would i have to buy a completely new bike or is it generally possible to "upgrade" existing bikes with something along those lines?

Thing is i don't have the money for a car (even a micro one) rn but would still need to cover a good amount of distance (around 12,5 miles, mostly paved road and sideways/some rat running paths) on a nigh-daily basis in case the other place will actually hire me so any input on this would be great... What do these things actually run for? I'm able to spend around 200-300ish bucks as of right now
