I don't know why or how, but in the last few years every decent transit activist group in my area is now a generic socjus shitfest that is more interested in fighting all the usual isms than fighting for decent transportation. A strong nation needs good transportation for people and goods, and multimodal systems with an emphasis on public transit are more fault-tolerant. Moreover, our current system all but ensures that people and families are debt slaves for life, with that money more often than not flowing out to foreign powers who might not have our best interests in mind. The same is true at the state level, as we have to constantly sell bonds and otherwise take on public debt to finance road maintenance, debt that is becoming increasingly owned by other countries, giving them leverage over us. Good public transit is big dick nationalism.
