I don't know where this idea that for touring you'd want a stiff frame came from, but I can tell you that for spending whole days in the saddle, comfort should be your top priority.
Semi-related, I'm looking for a more compliant steel frame that will take 29x2.6 wheels and a rear rack. Currently my top contenders are Ritchey Ascent and the upcoming Singular Swift mk5, anyone got other suggestions?
